Anthony Limbrick Pre-Cheltenham Town Press Conference

Grimsby Town interim manager Anthony Limbrick has emphasised the importance of continuity and having a clear style of play.

The Mariners lost 2-0 to Northampton Town at Sixfields Stadium on Saturday, despite having impressive spells in the match.

And Limbrick hopes Town can use that performance as a platform to build on, ahead of Tuesday’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Cheltenham Town at Blundell Park (7.45pm).

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “We’ve played the same system the last two games – 4-3-3 – there’s no hiding that, I think it’s quite obvious.

“We’re trying to make sure that we build relationships and there’s familiarity in there.

“So for me it’s clear that we’re trying to pass the ball more, create chances, and stick to a real plan moving forward.

“We’ve tried to simplify the game for the players, in terms of getting on the front foot more and trying to pass the ball more, and get it into those front three players.

“There are definitely goals in the team, and we showed that we can create the chances on Saturday.

“The environment is very important with the players – how you train and how you work with them – so we’ve had a focus over the last few weeks of getting back to the basics.

“We were doing that at the start of the season so we’ve gone back to that way and trying to replicate that, in terms of creating chances that we were earlier on in the season.

“I think it is a good reference point with that – we’ve showed that we can create and score goals.”

And Limbrick says the Town players have a responsibility to get the fans excited and off their seats during games.

He said: “I’ve been at Blundell Park many times when the atmosphere has been unbelievable.

“We need to try and do something in the game that gets the fans on our side – that’s a saying that we’ve been using over the last week.

“We need to make sure we’re on the front foot, make sure that we’re passing the ball, and creating chances.

“And make sure that the fans are supporting us by us doing something to get them out of their seats and get them excited, and that’s what we want to try and do.

“We want to take the game to them like we did at Northampton Town, and I think it’s so important to use the crowd and the atmosphere to make Blundell Park a hard place to come to.”

Max Wright and Ludvig Öhman could be in contention to return for the game, following spells on the sidelines.
