Preview | vs. Walsall (H)

The Mariners are back in action at Blundell Park tomorrow afternoon with Walsall visiting as Paul Hurst’s men look to continue a four-match unbeaten run in Sky Bet League Two.

Off the back of an entertaining goalless draw midweek away to Mansfield Town in an encounter Town could have won, the lads returned to Blundell Park with a positive run of form to defend.

A home win over Rochdale followed three consecutive draws at BP with Newport County, Leyton Orient and Harrogate all leaving with a point.

Team News

After sitting out the draw at Mansfield, battling midfielder Kieran Green is back in contention after being rested following his comeback from injury. Owen Gallacher continues to work towards a return to selection but tomorrow’s game may come just too soon for him.

The squad picked up no fresh issues in midweek giving Hurst a number of options to choose from.

Walsall

The visitors arrive in 13th place, two points ahead of the Mariners – albeit having played a match more – and eleven short of the play-off spots.

Walsall come into this match off a 2-0 home victory over Gillingham last weekend and have lost just twice in the last ten. Seven of those encounters have ended in draws and tomorrow’s visitors have a league-high fifteen to their name throughout the season.

The Saddlers still have something of an outside chance of reaching the play-offs but manager Michael Flynn will need to see his team turn those draws into wins if they are to do so.

Midfielder Issac Hutchinson is Walsall’s top scorer so far this season with five to his name.

Previous Meetings

Town picked up the three points in the return fixture at the Bescott Stadium earlier this season with a Harry Clifton brace giving the Mariners a 2-1 come-from-behind win. You can watch the highlights of that match HERE.

The two teams have faced each other 67 times in the past with the Mariners winning 24 of those compared to Walsall’s 32.

Referee

Rob Lewis is tomorrow’s referee. This will be his first Town match in two years with his last Mariners match coming in March 2021 when we hosted Tranmere Rovers.

Coverage

Tommorow’s match is available on Mariners TV to supporters in the UK and overseas. Match passes are available for £10 HERE.
