Fresh off the back of returning to winning ways at the weekend against Morecambe, the Mariners are back in action at Blundell Park tomorrow night with Slough Town visiting for our Emirates FA Cup First Round replay (7:45pm kick off).
After the initial tie ended in a 1-1 draw after Danny Rose’s second-half equaliser cancelled out Scott Davies’ free-kick in the opening 45, we will host the Rebels at BP with the winners set to make the trip to Oxford United in the Second Round.
The Mariners
Shaun Pearson spoke to the media earlier today and confirmed that, while Michee Efete is likely to be out for a few weeks, Danny Amos is back in contention after missing out against Morecambe. Our Interim Co-Head Coach Pearson further added that there may be another couple of absentees as players who haven’t played much football recently feel the effects of the efforts of Saturday afternoon.
Saturday’s victory was the Mariners’ first since picking up three points against Barrow at BP in early October and saw Town put a bit more distance between themselves and the drop zone with that gap now standing at four points ahead of consecutive league matches against the sides in the relegation zone coming up after tomorrow’s outing.
Our draw at Slough came off the back of last season’s FA Cup heroics that saw Town make history by becoming the first side to defeat teams from higher divisions in five consecutive rounds from the First Round proper while also reaching the last eight for the first time since 1939.
Slough Town
Led by Player-Manager Scott Davies, Slough have – since the initial match between the two sides – climbed out of the National League South drop zone with an emphatic 4-0 victory over fellow relegation-battlers Truro City last midweek.
A 4-3 defeat at Welling – who currently sit 22nd in the table – on Saturday sees them outside of the bottom four by virtue of having a goal difference advantage of just one over Truro.
Striker George Alexander, impressive in the first match and a player who narrowly missed out on a first-half goal when a header hit the post, is Slough’s top scorer this season with five goals to his name so far during his loan spell from Bromley.
Davies – the man in charge and Slough’s scorer in the first match – has been with the Rebels since the 2019-20 season and was appointed manager a year ago. With around 600 senior appearances to his name, the 35-year-old is vastly experienced and was key for tomorrow’s visitors earlier this month when the Mariners visited Arbour Park.
