Grimsby Town Women ran out 6-1 winners against relegation rivals Long Eaton last weekend.
The Mariners took the lead inside the first minute thanks to Emslie’s first-time finish after good work from Jacklin on the right wing.
The home side hit back almost immediately, Kershaw’s pass letting Long Eaton in one on one with Grey and the forward slotting under the Town keeper to equalise.
Town shook off the set back though and took the game to their rivals; Jacklin going close from a strike from the edge of the box and Wharton finding the keeper despite being put through on goal.
The Mariners continued to dominate in the second period and went close again; Emslie seeing an effort flash wide and Jacklin’s drive was expertly tipped away.
Eventually the pressure told for Hayley Cox’s team when Pedersen’s right-footed effort curled into the top corner of the Long Eaton net to put Town back in front.
Town added a third through Jacklin who pounced on Wharton’s rebounded effort in the box before Wharton added the fourth and fifth to take the game away from the hosts.
With time running out, Kershaw was able to redeem herself for her uncharacteristic error in the first half and get herself on the scoresheet with a long-range thunderbolt to seal an important and emphatic victory for the Mariners.
