We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Lewis Cass on a two-year deal.
The 24-year-old moves to Blundell Park following the expiration of his contract at Port Vale where he made 71 appearances during a two-year spell.
The defender spent the second half of last season on loan at Stockport County and helped the Hatters win promotion to League One.
Cass progressed through the ranks at Newcastle United and was named on the bench for the Magpies on a couple of occasions prior to joining Hartlepool United on loan where he helped the Pools win promotion back to the EFL via the play-offs in 2021.
The following season Cass moved to Port Vale on loan and made the move permanent in the summer of 2022.
On the arrival of Cass, Head Coach David Artell said, “I’m delighted we have been able to sign Lewis because I feel he will improve us in that area of the pitch.”
“We have had a longstanding interest in Lewis and actually tried to sign him back in January.
“We knew we were getting a good player with the right character and someone who also knows what’s required to win promotion out of this league following his spells with Port Vale and Stockport.
“I’m now looking forward to working with him day-to-day and helping him develop as a player.”
Speaking about his move to the Mariners, Cass said, “I’m buzzing to get it over the line. It’s been in the pipeline for a few weeks, so I’m glad to be here. The set-up is brilliant and I’m ready to go.”
“I’ve been involved in a couple of promotions recently and we’ve got a good squad here and hopefully everyone can push each other.
“I’m naturally a full-back but I can also slot into a back three. I’m a fit lad who likes to get up and down and also defend one on one.”
Welcome to the Mariners, Lewis!
