Yesterday we highlighted the efforts of five people who do brilliant work, associated to Grimsby Town FC, in our community ahead of the Fleetwood Town game.
The five individuals were chosen as the Club’s ‘Community Heroes’ as part of the EFL’s Community Weekends campaign taking part across the country throughout February.
At half-time, Mikey Pickett, Jason Land, Lily Jacklin, Anne Boyers and Kyron Wellum were invited on to the Blundell Park pitch in recognition of their hard work and dedication to Grimsby Town FC and the community.
Mikey Pickett is the Premier League Kicks Lead at Grimsby Town Foundation, where he has worked in various roles for over a decade and has recently been awarded the Club’s Community Captain award for his contributions to the community.
Mikey started his journey as a student on the football scholarship programme in partnership with Franklin College in Grimsby, before starting a casual role as a coach and developing into his role as Premier League Kicks Lead.
A lot of Mikey’s work is within our disability and inclusion team, inspiring young people daily and giving them opportunities they wouldn’t have had without his interventions.
Jason Land also works at Grimsby Town Foundation as Head of Inclusion, a position he’s held for over eight years.
During his time with the Foundation, Jason has led the Grimsby Town Ability Counts Football Team and has recently bought the teams under the Foundation, further supporting the growth of disability football in the area.
Last year, Jason received the inaugural Hope award from the FA, recognising his substantial role he has played in the development of disability football.
Jason is also the Lincolnshire FA’s disability football ambassador, and having grown up with a disability himself, is extremely passionate about the work he’s able to deliver in the community.
Anne Boyers has provided photographs for the football club and the fans as a volunteer for over 16 years.
Whether it’s mascots at Blundell Park, fans at away games or match action for our Youth and Women’s Teams, Anne captures it all.
Anne’s photographs capture the community spirit of the Club, giving fans and families memories to cherish forever.
Lily Jacklin is a member of our Women’s First Team and a Community Coach Educator for Grimsby Town Foundation.
Lily is also a Mentee for our girls Emerging Talent Centre, alongside being involved in the football scholarship in partnership with Franklin College and starting the sports coaching degree in partnership with the University of South Wales later this year.
Lily is always on hand to represent the Women’s First Team in the community, whether at awards ceremonies for the local council or joining the Men’s First Team to find out more about the fishing history behind the town.
Kyron Wellum is a member of Grimsby Town Ability Counts’ premiership squad and additional to that, comes down to support the U16s sessions.
Supporting additional sessions allows Kyron to pass down his knowledge and enthusiasm to others younger than him, which proves to have a massive impact.
Late last year, Kyron underwent major surgery, which has impacted his ability to play football, however it has not stopped him from coming to support the U16s sessions.
We’d like to thank Mikey, Jason, Anne, Lily and Kyron for all of their hard work but we’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our dedicated staff and volunteers who support the Club and our community.
