Amos Pens Mariners Deal

Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of defender, Danny Amos until the end of the season.

Amos signs as a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Sky Bet League Two side, Port Vale earlier this month.

The 22-year-old came through the ranks of Doncaster Rovers’ Academy system, penning his first professional contract at the club in November 2017. The young defender’s League debut came in April 2018 in a 0-0 draw at Oldham Athletic with two further first-team appearances coming that season towards the end of the campaign. His first year as a professional ended with Amos picking up Rovers’ Young Player of the Year award.

Shortly before signing his first professional contract, Amos was called up to the Northern Ireland Under 19’s squad, making his debut In October 2017 at home to Poland, scoring the team’s only goal from the edge of the box in a 2-1 defeat.

After 25 appearances in all competitions for his first club, Amos signed a short-term contract with Port Vale in September 2021 after impressing during a trial period with the club during the summer.

Our latest signing spoke to GTTV this afternoon following his first session with his new teammates and couldn’t hide his delight at getting his move sorted.

“I’m absolutely delighted. I have been following Town since the start of the season and know how well you have been doing. We have had a little bit of a dip but I’m hoping to help change that, it’s a massive club that shouldn’t be in this league.

“I am all left-footed, I can use my right but it’s more just for standing on! I will always give 110% as soon as I cross that white line you will see me giving my all for 90 minutes, giving everything I can, getting balls into the box, attacking play as well as my defensive duties.

“Funnily enough, I don’t personally know any of the players here but I know the names like Giles Coke, Ryan Taylor and also Max Wright from when he used to play in the Grimsby Youth Team, I played against him a few times but they have welcomed me with open arms so I can’t wait to get going”.

We also spoke to manager Paul Hurst this morning at Cheapside to discuss his latest acquisition.

“He’s a young player still, a player who I have known about for a long time. He was at Doncaster for a period and then joined Port Vale more recently, where I think he had three games for them. But I know the manager there well, had conversations with him about Danny and I think he’s somebody who is looking for an opportunity.

“He would like to get more game time but we have said going back, it’s important we have cover there, so him and Crookesy will fight it out for that position. He is somebody who can play left-back, left wing-back and left centre-back if we want to change to a three, so he has a bit of flexibility in him as well and he is somebody who I am looking forward to working with.

“We are getting a player who is determined and wants to try and find a home and get games. The opportunity is there and Danny wanted to take us up on the offer and hopefully, he can show us what he’s about”.
