Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of striker Josh Andrews on a free transfer following his departure from Gillingham.
The 24-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Mariners and becomes the latest addition to David Artell’s squad ahead of the new campaign.
Standing at 6ft 5in, Andrews arrives at Blundell Park with over 100 senior appearances to his name, including extensive experience in Sky Bet League Two.
A product of Birmingham City’s academy, Andrews spent 15 years with his boyhood club before gaining valuable Football League experience during loan spells with Harrogate Town, Rochdale, Doncaster Rovers and Accrington Stanley.
The striker enjoyed a productive spell with Accrington during the 2023/24 campaign, before joining Gillingham on a permanent deal in February 2024. He went on to make 54 appearances for the Gills, adding further League Two experience and continuing his development as a forward.
Known for his physical presence, ability to occupy defenders and willingness to lead the line, Andrews adds another attacking option to the Mariners squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Head Coach David Artell said:
“We became aware of Josh from his time at Accrington, and he isn’t half a handful! He’s got all the attributes to be a real top striker.
He’ll provide great competition up the top end of the pitch and we believe we’ll get the best out of him. We’re looking forward to him joining us. One thing we do is create plenty of big chances, we created the most out of anyone in the league last season and we’re hopeful that with the plethora of talent we have available at that end of the pitch that we’ll score lots of goals. We think Josh will be able to do that.”
Speaking after completing his move to Blundell Park, Andrews said:
“I’m delighted to be here. As soon as I spoke to the gaffer and heard about the ambitions of the club, it was something I wanted to be part of. The club is clearly moving in the right direction and after coming so close last season, so hopefully we can build on that and have another successful year.
The support here is incredible, the town is right behind the club, and I can’t wait to get out in front of the fans and get started.”
Everyone at Grimsby Town Football Club would like to welcome Josh to the Club and wish him every success during his time with the Mariners.
