Grimsby Town interim manager Anthony Limbrick has been previewing the Sky Bet League Two clash with Macclesfield Town at Moss Rose on Boxing Day (3pm).
The Mariners look to end their nine-game winless run in the league as they face Daryl McMahon’s Silkmen on Thursday.
And caretaker boss Limbrick believes Town will start to turn their form around once they get an elusive goal, after some encouraging performances in recent weeks.
He said: “It’s been a focus leading into these games – we wanted to make sure that we kept creating chances, and we certainly have done that.
“All of the league games that I’ve been in charge of, apart from the Swindon Town game, we’ve created more than enough chances to win the games, and that’s four of the last five matches.
“When you’re creating that many chances we just need a combination of a little bit more ruthlessness in the final third, decision-making, and also a little bit of luck.
“We need more ruthlessness with the final pass, run, and shot, and decision-making is a key element of finishing.
“And I also feel like if some luck goes with us and we can get one then hopefully more will come.
“I would say all we need is a goal. If we keep performing like we have done it’s only a matter of time before we score – that’s my message to the players at the moment.
“There’s no one more disappointed than them that we haven’t scored in the last few games because we’ve felt we’ve deserved to get some goals.
“But deserving to score and performing well, but not getting the results, is not what this game is about.
“So we need to make sure that we score and hopefully that will lead to three points.”
James Hanson remains out for the next few games, Elliott Hewitt could be in contention to return for Boxing Day, and Jordan Cook will face a late fitness test ahead of the match.
