We are calling on fans to help support the next generation of Mariners by becoming a host family for the 2026/27 season.
We are currently seeking host family providers, couples or singles, to support our elite young players, aged 16-18, who need to live away from home to undertake their football training and education in pursuit of a career in professional football.
Where We Need You Most
We are particularly keen to hear from families based in Waltham, New Waltham, and Scartho. Recent enquiries from outside these areas have unfortunately not been viable due to limited transport routes, making these locations especially important for ensuring players can travel easily to training, education, and matches.
What Does Being A Host Family Involve?
Host families provide a safe, welcoming and supportive home environment for young players living away from home. The aim is to create a “home-from-home” where players can relax, feel part of family life, and focus on their development both on and off the pitch.
Accommodation should include a comfortable bedroom with storage, Wi-Fi access and washing facilities. Players are encouraged to integrate respectfully into family life, while hosts play an important role in helping them build independence and essential life skills such as cooking, cleaning, and managing routines.
Families are typically expected to provide meals as required, usually breakfast and an evening meal depending on training schedules, with guidance from the club to ensure these align with basic nutritional standards.
Supported Every Step Of The Way
Host families are fully supported by the club’s Player Care team, with regular visits from club representatives to ensure arrangements remain positive for both the household and the player.
Placements can vary in length, ranging from short-term stays – such as accommodating trialists – to longer seasonal arrangements.
The club is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All prospective hosts will therefore undergo enhanced DBS checks, provide references, and attend safeguarding, first aid and mental health training.
Is It A Paid Role?
Yes. Host families currently receive £90 per player, per week.
