Our Fantasy EFL expert Holly Shand takes a look back at the opening four Gameweeks of the season before picking out the Mariners players Fantasy EFL managers should be considering for September.
The opening three Gameweeks have seen several Mariners make their mark, with Harvey Rodgers leading the way for Town after an impressive start to the season.
Rodgers’ match-winning goal against Exeter City on the opening weekend, combined with clean sheets in Town’s first two games and an assist against his former club Accrington Stanley last time out, has seen the defender rank among the top ten scoring defenders in League Two.
Rodgers leads the way
The Town defender has been one of the standout performers for the Mariners in Fantasy EFL during August.
Rodgers’ goal against Exeter proved decisive as Town opened the season with a 1-0 victory at Blundell Park, while further clean-sheet points followed in the goalless draw with Walsall.
He then added an assist against Accrington Stanley in Gameweek 3, continuing his impressive start and making him one of the highest-scoring defenders in the division.
Cook delivers in Double Gameweek
Andy Cook was Town’s top Fantasy EFL performer in Double Gameweek 3, finding the net against both Fleetwood Town and Accrington Stanley.
The striker also registered three shots on target in each fixture, helping the small percentage of Fantasy EFL managers who backed him to a huge 20-point haul.
Just 0.5% of managers selected Cook for the Double Gameweek – with Holly among those who backed him.
Town sixth after three Gameweeks
The Mariners end the opening three Gameweeks on 22 points, putting Town sixth among all League Two clubs.
The highlight so far was undoubtedly the opening-day victory over Exeter, with the three points and clean-sheet bonus combining for seven Fantasy EFL points.
With plenty more points available throughout September, Holly has picked out the Mariners players Fantasy EFL managers should be considering across the next four Gameweeks.
Who should you pick in September?
Gameweek 4 – Cheltenham Town
Town travel to Cheltenham Town in Gameweek 4, and there are a couple of Mariners worth considering.
Kieran Green and Andy Cook both contributed when Town travelled to Whaddon Road last season, making them two players to keep an eye on ahead of the trip.
Gameweek 5 – Bristol Rovers
The Mariners return to Blundell Park to face Bristol Rovers in Gameweek 5, with the visitors arriving as the current league leaders.
Andy Cook could once again be one to consider, having scored when the two sides last met in February.
Gameweek 6 – Crawley Town
The visit of Crawley Town could offer further opportunities for Fantasy EFL managers.
Town enjoyed a perfect record against the Reds last season, beating them home and away without conceding.
Cameron McJannet and Harvey Rodgers both found the net against Crawley last campaign, making the pair particularly interesting options for those looking towards Town’s defensive ranks.
Gameweek 7 – Newport County
The Mariners then travel to Newport County in Gameweek 7.
Kieran Green was directly involved in two goals against Newport last season, scoring once and providing an assist, while Town’s most recent visit to Rodney Parade ended in a goalless draw in February.
With four fixtures to choose from across September, there could be plenty of opportunities for Mariners players to add to their Fantasy EFL points tally.
