Town’s Youth Team secured a 2-1 victory away at Chesterfield on Saturday morning, with Noah Hutton and captain Josh Edwards getting on the scoresheet.

Windy conditions had a significant impact on the contest, but the Mariners created several promising opportunities during an evenly contested first half.

Curtis Manyika tested the Chesterfield goalkeeper with a well-struck effort from distance, forcing an impressive save, while Fortune Jack found space to break through on an angle but saw his effort sail over the crossbar.

With neither side able to find a breakthrough before the interval, the teams went into half-time level at 0-0.

Town took the lead 20 minutes into the second half after Malaki Golding broke into the penalty area and was brought down, earning the Mariners a spot-kick.

Noah Hutton stepped up and confidently dispatched the penalty in the 65th minute to put Grimsby ahead.

However, Chesterfield responded almost immediately, levelling the score through a long throw-in just moments after Town had taken the lead.

The Mariners showed their resilience and continued to push for a winner, which arrived in the 80th minute.

Captain Josh Edwards rose highest to power home a header, restoring Town’s advantage and ultimately securing all three points on the road.

Despite the challenging conditions and Chesterfield’s quick response to the opening goal, the Mariners showed determination to find a decisive moment late on and return home with a 2-1 victory.
