Mariners Secure Dieseruvwe On Loan

Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of striker Emmanuel Dieseruvwe on loan from Tranmere Rovers until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old signed for Rovers in the summer of 2021 following a successful four year period at Salford City, where he helped the Ammies secure promotion from the National League North and National League divisions in successive campaigns.

We caught up with the 6’5″ striker at Cheapside yesterday following his first training session with his new teammates.

“To be fair, I am absolutely buzzing to be coming here, I have been itching to get out and get games so I was really excited to come to a club like Grimsby. When I heard that it was a possibility, I was absolutely over the moon and wanted nothing else, I wanted it to get done.

“I’m an old school number nine. I like to get hold of the ball and bring the rest of the team into play, I like to get in and behind the defence and just be a nuisance for the defenders whilst chipping in with goals and assists. I want to get games in the League again and get playing and scoring again. As a striker, you need to be playing and getting yourself in a good run of form with your team and all you want to do is help and contribute to the team with goals and assists”.

With multiple promotions under his belt, Dieseruvwe has his eyes set on success with the Mariners this season, with the Playoffs firmly in sight.

“I had a really good time at Salford. I spent four years there and we were promoted twice in the first two seasons of me being there and I really enjoyed my time there. It was a period in which I was playing the most amount of games, especially in the year we were promoted from the National League and I want to emulate that again, get myself in the team, put myself about and be a big presence for this team.

“I spoke to the manager yesterday and he told me about the situation with the team and the position, so it was good to see and hear the ambition and we’re wanting to try and get into those Playoff positions, so it’s my aim to get into the team, get as many games as possible which is my first target and then I want to contribute with my goals and play to help get up that table and make sure we stay there”.

Manager Paul Hurst spoke to gtfc.co.uk to gave us an insight into his latest acquisition.

“He will bring some physicality but at the same time, just because of his size and stature he’s a better player than that. He has got experience, he has won promotion from the League before and I think we let Lenny out and then we suffered a couple of injuries!

“He is someone that I have been aware of for some time. He was on a shortlist of ours and speaking to him, he is really keen to come and try to help us have a strong finish to the end of the season, so I am looking forward to getting to know him and work with him.

“With Lenny leaving, it made us speed up the search for a striker, it wasn’t particularly in the immediate plans but what I would say is we need to protect ourselves and we thought initially about him just coming in for a month, but we have got it done until the end of the season because we need those options with a lot of games coming up. It’s amazing that on Wednesday we had a couple of injuries in that area of the pitch which always seems to be the case at times however if we fall short in the end, I don’t want it to be because of a lack of numbers and that’s something I will have to manage as we progress, but all our players will play their part.

“I would like to think that his promotions will be beneficial for us. He is an experienced player who has been on the bench recently for Tranmere. It hasn’t quite worked out for him there so far but he has been in and around clubs that have had success and expectations. I think that can only help, we speak about that here and we’re not afraid of that. We know that with the fanbase that we have got and what we want to try and achieve and Manny is comfortable with that and like I said, he is keen to get started.”

Emmanuel will wear the number 12 shirt this season.

Welcome to the club Manny!
