Match preview and information: Harrogate Town (A)

Next up for David Artell’s men is a trip to North Yorkshire to face Harrogate Town.

The Sulphurites currently reside in 20th in the Sky Bet League Two table and have had a difficult season. This is Harrogate’s fifth season as a League Two outfit, emerging as National League play-off winners in 2020 and entering the Football League for the first time in their history. In the reverse fixture, a first senior goal for Evan Khouri along with a Jason Svanthorsson strike sealed a 2-1 Boxing Day victory for the Mariners.

Over the 41 games played this season, Harrogate have won 12, drawn nine and lost 20. They’re currently eight games unbeaten at home and haven’t lost at the Exercise Stadium since New Year’s Day. Their most recent result saw them lose narrowly to promotion-chasing AFC Wimbledon, with a 77th-minute strike sending them home from the Cherry Red Records Stadium empty-handed.

David Artell previews our trip to Harrogate Town

Harrogate are managed by 47-year-old Simon Weaver, who became player-manager of the North Yorkshire outfit back in 2009. Since then, he has taken the club from sixth-tier strugglers to a club who have become an established football league outfit. Closing in on 800 games in charge of the Sulphurites, Weaver is currently the longest-serving manager in the top four divisions.

A key player for Harrogate will be goalkeeper, James Belshaw. Despite a difficult season in the bottom half of the table, the 34-year-old has still managed to keep 12 clean sheets this campaign. The Nottingham-born shot-stopper has been a crucial presence in between the sticks this season for Harrogate, with his ability to make a save from close-range proving vital on numerous occasions this season. He’s also got a 75% penalty save rate, having saved three of the four spot kicks he’s faced this campaign.
