Michael Jolley Post-Leyton Orient Press Conference

Grimsby Town manager Michael Jolley was ‘very disappointed’ with his side’s 4-0 Sky Bet League Two defeat to Leyton Orient at Blundell Park.

Town fell to a disappointing defeat as the Os scored two goals either side of half time, with the Mariners desperately searching for a way back into the game at 2-0 down.

And Jolley expressed his disappointment at the defeat, and the manner in which Town conceded the first two goals.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “It was a very disappointing one for us – obviously the scoreline is not good.

“The first two goals were really poor from our perspective – two balls in the box that we didn’t deal with.

“And yet again we’re chasing a game, and I didn’t think there was a great deal in it – but they scored two goals so it’s very tough to come back from 2-0 down.

“We’ve conceded too many goals from wide free-kicks – it’s an area that we must improve in, that’s clear.

“We’ve changed the set-up twice already to try and address that issue, but clearly what we’ve attempted so far hasn’t worked, so we must improve.

“We made some changes once again at half time, similar to last week – I thought we should’ve scored at least one goal in the second half with the chances we created.

“But when you’re chasing a game it’s always a possibility that that can happen when they score more goals on the counter-attack.

“We were desperate to try and get back into the game. We kind of emptied midfield a little bit because we were getting so many people to try and score.

“It was a set play and they counter-attacked, and they got the third and fourth goals.

But the Town boss hopes his side can refocus and improve ahead of Tuesday’s game against Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium (7.45pm).

He said: “Today was a poor day for us. Clearly the scoreline is very disappointing – nobody wants to get beaten 4-0, and we must do better than that, I think it’s very clear.

“We’ve got another game on Tuesday against Cambridge United, and we need to go into that game with a clear head.

“And we need to refocus quickly on the things that we’ve done well in the games where we have got results.”

Jolley also confirmed that Ethan Robson missed the game through injury, after he tweaked his groin in the week.
