Michael Jolley Pre-Leyton Orient Press Conference

Grimsby Town manager Michael Jolley hopes his side can add more energy and aggression to their performance this weekend.

The Mariners face Leyton Orient, who have appointed Carl Fletcher as new manager this week, in Sky Bet League Two at Blundell Park on Saturday (3pm).

And Jolley hopes his side can be more energetic and aggressive, after last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Stevenage at Broadhall Way.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “We need to bring the right energy on Saturday. It was too easy to put the ball in our penalty box at Stevenage.

“So we’ve been working on getting up to the ball a little more aggressively, and making sure that our opponents can’t put the ball in our box, so that’s been a real focus for us.

“And we also need to bring some more energy to our attacking play, so those are some of the things we’ve been working on this week.

“We’ve got to get the balance right between being aggressive when Leyton Orient have the ball, and trying to get it back quickly.

“And stopping the ball coming into our box, and making sure that when we do have the ball we pose a threat to them.

“In the first half of the Stevenage game we didn’t do well enough with that, but we did better with it in the second half.

“Over the piece so far we’ve had 13 games and we’ve done okay. We need to get back to the good performances that we had prior to last Saturday.”

And Jolley revealed that centre-half Ludvig Öhman may return from injury for this weekend’s game, while Max Wright remains out.

He said: “Ludvig could be ready to return. He’s done some training this week so we need to assess that between now and Saturday.

“It’s going to be a difficult selection choice because for the most part centre-halves have done well.

“Whether it’s Mattie Pollock, Harry Davis, Luke Waterfall, or Ludvig when he’s played – they’ve all done well at different times.

“So we’ll try and select the best combination that we can, and it’s important that we do that.

“But unfortunately, Max Wright is not going to be ready for this game on Saturday.”
