Michael Jolley Pre-Oldham Athletic Press Conference

Grimsby Town manager Michael Jolley has praised the options in his squad ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park (3pm).

The Mariners take on Laurent Banide’s side, who are 22nd-place in the league on five points after their opening seven games, this weekend.

And Town boss Jolley is happy with the variety of options his players give him, ahead of Saturday’s clash with the Latics.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “I feel we’ve got a good squad. It’s just 20 outfield players, but that’s two for each position and different players give us different options and different ways of approaching it.

“Max Wright is an out and out winger, Moses Ogbu is a different kind of attacking player, Charles Vernam is different, Ahkeem Rose has his speed, Matt Green and James Hanson.

“They all offer something different, and the same in midfield – they all bring something different.

“It’s up to us to find the right combination for each match. Every match is different, and we need to come up with the right solution.

“Ahkeem Rose and Max Wright have impacted the game when they’ve come off the bench.

“But I also know that they both want to start games so we need to find the right moments to make sure they get enough starts to give them a chance of going in and staying in the team permanently as starters.

“Both of those players have got big potential and they can do really well for us.”

And Jolley said that Oldham have been improving in recent weeks, after suffering just one defeat in their last four league games.

He said: “If you look at their last few matches, they won at Cambridge United which is a tough place to go.

“And they went down to Plymouth Argyle last week and got a really good, well-earned point.

“So anybody who has seen their last few games will see that they’ve got some really good, effective players.

“I think they had a good end to the transfer window when they brought in a few players late in the window, so it’s a very difficult League Two match for us.

“They’ve been fairly consistent with their approach so far – they’ve had a few changes in personnel but their coach has a lot of experience, and he’s done some great things in football.

“They’ll be a strong team, and they’re at home as well, so it’s going to be a tough game.”

Harry Clifton and Jordan Cook should be available, while Ahkeem Roses edges closer to full fitness.
