PREVIEW | Mariners look first first victory as Salford visit

Off the back of Saturday’s narrow defeat away to Notts County, the Mariners return to Blundell Park tomorrow night with Salford City making the trip to Cleethorpes.

Team News

Ahead of last weekend’s match, manager Paul Hurst confirmed that defender Niall Maher would be absent for a couple of weeks after picking up an injury during our home match against AFC Wimbledon on the opening weekend.

He joins Otis Khan and Donovan Wilson in the treatment room with the manager having previously confirmed that he is hoping both will be available for our away trip to Walsall on Saturday 26th August.

Salford City

Our visitors tomorrow night head to Blundell Park off the back of a 1-1 home draw against Crawley Town at the weekend with a Conor McAleny effort in the second half cancelling out Luke Garbutt’s own goal in the opening period.

The Ammies are one of three clubs currently sitting on four points in Sky Bet League Two after winning 2-0 at Forest Green in their opening day fixture.

Managed by former Manchester United under-23 coach Neil Wood, Salford reached the League Two Play-Offs last season and only missed out on the final after losing on penalties to Stockport County.

Previous Meetings

The sides met twice in League Two last season with October’s away match at the Peninsula Stadium ending in a 1-1 draw when Lewis Richardson’s goal cancelled out Theo Vassell’s early opener.

When Salford visited Blundell Park in December, they left with the three points after a 4-1 away victory.

Altogether, the two teams have faced off six times, all in the fourth tier, with the Mariners victorious once in comparison with Salford’s three.

Referee

Peter Wright is the man in charge of tomorrow’s match in what will be hist first Mariners match since our 2-1 away win to Walsall in August last year.

He will be assisted by Mark Jones and Jacob Lehane.

Coverage

Tomorrow’s match will be available live on Mariners TV to supporters both in the UK and overseas with match passes available HERE for just £10.
