PREVIEW | MORECAMBE FC (A)

The Mariners make the trip West to face play-off pushing Morecambe FC at the Mazuma Stadium (kick-off 3pm).

Town suffered defeat in the last round of Sky Bet League Two to the hands of Doncaster Rovers but will be strongly backed by the Grimsby faithful making the journey to Lancashire hoping to see the Mariners get back on track.

Team News

Head Coach David Artell has stated that Callum Ainley is now back in training and building up his fitness levels ahead of any potential return to the squad. Curtis Thompson missed last week’s game against Doncaster with a slight ‘niggle’ but trained yesterday whilst Arthur Gnahoua missed out through illness and is unlikely to feature again this weekend.

Morecambe FC

These two sides last met in November when Town played out an impressive 3-2 home win over the Shrimps. The Mariners found themselves a goal down in the first half through Mayor, but Town ran riot in the second half courtesy of goals from Rose, Green and Pyke before a late goal from McKiernan for Morecambe proved to be nothing but a consolation.

Morecambe are currently managed by Ged Brannan who was appointed as the club’s First Team Manager in late November following the departure of Derek Adams. Brannan who has never previously managed a first team game has overseen a Morecambe side who have aspirations of an instant return to Sky Bet League One following their relegation last season.

The Shrimps enter this game having won three out of their last five league outings, drawing one but also losing one in their midweek away game at Walsall.

The hosts have a home form to be proud of after winning eight of their 18 home fixtures this season, only losing four in the process.

JJ McKiernan is Morecambe’s top scorer having scored 7 goals in 27 games this season. Previous top scorer Michael Mellon was recalled by parent club Burnley in January after a successful spell on the West Coast.
