PREVIEW | vs. Northampton Town (A)

We travel to take on Northampton Town tomorrow afternoon looking to bounce back from back-to-back defeats in Sky Bet League Two.

Our hosts, however, find themselves in the upper reaches of the league table and will certainly be no pushovers at Sixfields.

Team News

The Mariners come into the match with no fresh injury issues from Tuesday’s defeat at Gillingham.

Kieran Green, however, joined the injury list after being substituted in our Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round replay win over Luton Town at Blundell Park with a rib issue.

He is joined by Otis Khan, Ryan Taylor and Jordan Cropper as current injury absentees.

Northampton Town

The Cobblers have drawn their last three matches and find themselves in fourth-place, level on points with Carlisle United in third.

Last season saw tomorrow’s hosts have the best defensive record in League Two yet, this season, it has been their attack that has shone with Northampton being one of the top scorers in the league with 43 goals. Only three teams have scored more than them this season.

One of the big reasons for that has been top scorer Sam Hoskins, the winger having scored 16 goals so far this season.

Previous Meetings

Earlier this season, the Mariners hosted Northampton at Blundell Park when a late Jordan Maguire-Drew goal cancelled our Hoskins’ opener in a 1-1 draw. You can watch the highlights of that first encounter HERE.

The two teams have played each other 17 times previously with the Cobblers winning six of those compared to Town’s four.

One of the most memorable matches between the two sides came in the 1998 Second Division Play-Off final when a 1-0 win courtesy of a Kevin Donovan goal saw the Mariners earn promotion. You can relive that match with the highlights HERE.

Referee

Simon Mather will be the referee on Saturday afternoon. His only previous Town match came in our 2-1 home defeat to Carlisle United in September.

He will be assisted by Adrian Tranter and Steven Plane.

Coverage

Due to broadcast restrictions, tomorrow’s match will be available on Mariners TV for overseas viewers only. Supporters can purchase match passes to take in all the action for just £10 HERE.
