Grimsby Town manager Russell Slade has expressed his frustration at the โ€œover-inflatedโ€ transfer market as he looks to strengthen his Mariners squad in the January window.

Following the loan signings of goalkeeper Jake Kean from Sheffield Wednesday and forward Charles Vernam from Derby County, the boss is hoping to bring another striker to Blundell Park before the end of Deadline Day on January 31, but believes many players are over-priced in this mid-season window.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: โ€œAt times, the marketโ€™s really over-inflated with players that have not really played that many games or not been that productive.

โ€œAnd the prices for some of them, whether itโ€™s salary or fees for them, are over-priced.

โ€œWeโ€™re still trying to look in that area (for a striker) and see what there is about, but some of the prices are ridiculous.

โ€œParticularly at the first part of the window, where people are wanting absolute top-dollar for their players, so it makes life a little bit difficult.

โ€œWeโ€™re all in for the same players, to a certain extent. If youโ€™re looking for a midfielder or a striker, then there are going to be other clubs that are looking for the same kind of position.โ€

But the gaffer will continue to search for the right fit as he looks to bolster his squad, for the remainder of the Sky Bet League Two campaign, before the end of the window.

โ€œIt is a bit easier in that summer window when youโ€™ve got a little bit more time, and also youโ€™ve got players that are out of contract at that particular stage of the season.

โ€œYou spin plates, you show an interest in one player, but you canโ€™t just show an interest in one player โ€“ you have to have maybe two, three, four, five players because thereโ€™ll be competition for all of those players.

โ€œCertainly weโ€™re looking to add to those coming in, at this moment in time, but it is a process with these,โ€ he said.
