Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce that the old Boardroom has been renamed the Alan Buckley Suite, following the results of a supporters vote.
We spoke to the legendary former manager who was caught by surprise at the renaming but couldn’t contain his excitement.
“I attended the game against Notts County and met David Smith upstairs who told me that he wanted to show me something. He then took me to what I remember as the Boardroom for years and years and my name was on the door, the Alan Buckley Suite.
“I was extremely touched and it was explained to me that it went to a vote and it just feels that I am never going to be forgotten! I’m not saying that I ever wanted that, but it is a really nice moment, I was really touched and I would like to thank everybody that voted.
“I would also like to thank Jason and Andrew, the new Board for allowing it to happen and I think that it feels like now, the things we were trying to do all those years ago have been appreciated and when I got home and told my wife about everything, it hit home and as I mentioned, I am incredibly touched by the gesture”.
Vice-Chair, Andrew Pettit spoke of the decision to rename the boardroom today to gtfc.co.uk, wishing to pay tribute to the former Mariners manager.
“Having consulted with the fans, Alan was a strong favourite among the many legends we have had at Town over the years. His era epitomised the standards of hard work, quality football and community engagement that we aspire to. This is just a small thank you from the club for the many memories he has helped create for us all.”
