Travelling To Sunderland? Read Our Essential Guide Before You Set Off

Ticket info – If purchased from Blundell Park, tickets are priced at £3 for adults and £1 for over 65/under 16.  If purchased on the night prices increase to £10. Tickets will be on sale from the Blundell Park ticket office until 12 noon today.

Turnstiles will open 90 minutes before kick-off.  Access for away fans is via turnstiles to 60-62 – with 62 being the cash turnstile in the Carling North stand.

Where to eat and drink – There are numerous food outlets within the city itself and the away end will, of course, be on hand to serve fans when the stadium is open.  Away fan friendly pubs include The Colliery Tavern near the stadium on Southwick Road and The Wheatsheaf on Roker Avenue.  I’m told that The Albion pub, on Victor Street, off Roker Avenue will also welcome away fans and also has a decent chippy nearby.

Sunderland’s flag policy – Flags over 7ft x 3ft require a safety certificate.  No flags on poles are permitted nor are those with content that is considered offensive.  On entering the away end approach a steward who will advise on best placement. This is usually within the first 5 rows of the away end.  Any questions? Please contact the clubs SLO on chris.waters@safc.com

Directions by car – The stadium is placed for easy accessibility from both the A19 and the A1 via Wessington Way (A1231).  The postcode to use is SR5 1SU.

Directions by rail – The nearest station is around a 10-15-minute walk away from the stadium.

The metro stops at both the Stadium of Light and St Peter’s stations.  After the game – if fans are travelling North towards Newcastle they must use the Stadium of Light station otherwise please use St Peter’s station.

Parking – Parking is very limited at the stadium and both police and local authority parking restrictions apply to many streets around the area and will be enforced on match days.  Chargeable car parks can be found at St. Marys (SR1 3AH), Sunniside (SR1 1UL) and The Bridges (SR1 3PZ).  All are around a 10-15-minute walk from the ground.

A park and ride system is available on Wessington Way (A1231) and is clearly signposted.  Buses run every 5 minutes before the game.

Parking is also available on two sites at the University of Sunderland on the A183 (Chester Road) and St Peter’s.  Both are clearly signposted for matchday parking.
