Grimsby Town Women are heading through the to Marsh Sport County Plate final following a convincing win over Cleethorpes Town.
The match started at a ferocious pace with the Mariners knowing they were in for a tough game when the first tackle of the match saw Lovett go flying into DeJonge, sending her sprawling after only 3 minutes.
Town controlled possession throughout the opening moments with Pedersen, Wharton and DeJonge all seeing efforts fly just wide.
The Mariners continued to turn the screw and took the lead with 14 minutes on the clock. A lofted ball forward was controlled on the chest by Wharton and threaded through to DeJonge who with one touch to set rifled a strike into the top corner from the edge of the area.
More chances came and went with Cleethorpes Town keeper extremely busy, a short corner routine resulted in a chance at the back post for Pedersen as well as two free kicks by Kershaw palmed away to safety. Brighton had one final chance before half-time but again was thwarted down low.
HALF TIME 1-0
The Mariners went about business in the same way they did the first half; on the front foot and taking the game to Cleethorpes. A lovely move involving Pedersen, Welsh, Jacklin and Wharton saw the latter lay the ball though for the on rushing Brighton who could only fire wide from the angle.
Cleethorpes had their first shot of the game on 53 minutes with a loose pass from Kershaw being intercepted by Emslie, but her shot went straight down the throat of Lacey who caught with ease.
With 60 minutes on the clock, some neat footwork by Welsh left Flecknor with no option but to haul her down. The resulting freekick was whipped in by Kershaw to the back post where Jacklin, Brighton and DeJonge all beat the offside trap and attacked the ball. The final touch came from DeJonge at the back post to add to her tally and make it 7 goals in 5 games.
Another sweeping move saw Brighton 1 on 1 with the keeper but her left foot finish could only trickle past the post. The Mariners scored the final goal of the game straight out of the set piece play book, Kershaw drove the ball high from the corner with Wray losing her marker and rising highest to power her header home across the keeper. What a fitting way to celebrate her 50th appearance for the club.
But with time ticking away into added time, a dubious offside call led to frustration from DeJonge and the referee brandished a red card.
