A dominant Mariners side thrashed HBW United Ladies in Skegness to claim the 2024 Marsh Sports County Plate!
The Mariners started the game brightly against a lower league opposition when Beth Wharton grabbed the opener with a shot from inside the box which found the bottom corner.
Just five minutes later and Town had the second as an Olivia Kershaw free-kick found it’s way to Danielle Brighton at the back-post who tapped in from close range.
HBW showed signs of promise when an effort from inside the box was well saved by Chloe Gray to keep the Mariners two goal cushion intact.
The lead was tripled when Alisha De Jonge was able to loop the ball over the keeper’s head from the edge of the box with her back to goal.
Eden Pederson rounded off the first half as Town’s number four, grabbed the fourth goal and extended the commanding lead.
Half Time
Beth Wharton started the second half in the same way she started the first, scoring from inside the box in the opening three minutes of the half.
Moments later and Wharton had her hat-trick with another cool finish from inside the box slotting the ball past the keeper ensuring she’d be taking the match-ball home.
Town looked dangerous every time they had possession of the ball, Rosie Barker was next to test the HBW keeper, but she made a great stop on the line to deny Town a seventh.
With just over 20 minutes to play, Wharton had her fourth of the game, rounding the defenders before placing the ball into the back of the net.
An unfortunate own goal extended the Mariners’ lead before Pederson got her second goal of the game to take the game to nine.
Harriet Dalton got the final goal of the game, grabbing the tenth goal for Town, cementing the cup victory.
