The Mariners’ youth team return to FA Youth Cup action next Tuesday evening as they travel to Northampton Town in the first round of this season’s competition.
Town will be looking to continue the Club’s proud recent history in the competition, having enjoyed several memorable cup runs in recent seasons.
In December 2024, Neil Woods’ side produced a famous performance at Blundell Park to defeat West Ham United, the 2023 winners, 1-0 and reach the fourth round where they fell to Tottenham Hotspur in extra time. The Young Mariners had also beaten Nottingham Forest the previous season, recording back-to-back victories over Category One academy sides.
Last season, Town reached the second round after a strong victory over Loughborough Students – though ultimately fell to Doncaster Rovers at Blundell Park.
The young Mariners will now aim to take another step forward this season when they face Northampton on Tuesday, with supporters able to get behind the team on the road.
