YOUTH TEAM REPORT | Harrogate Town 3-2 Grimsby Town

The Mariners travelled to York St John University to play Harrogate on Tuesday morning.

Town made a positive start as Collins saw his shot smash off the bar and after a well worked move Henry Brown hit the bar too, he was again later denied by the keeper from close range.

However the Mariners opened the scoring when Gardner finished off a fine team move to make it 1-0.

This seemed to fire Harrogate into action and despite Towns good start it was Harrogate who finished the half stronger despite the Mariners still leading.

The second half Henry Brown cut inside only for Collins to see his chance go inches wide. Giles had a chance to double the lead but fired wide also.

Town were made to pay for their missed chances as Harrogate headed home to make it 1-1 after 60 mins and followed up with another after 70 mins with a fine volley from the edge of the box.

Town however grabbed a late response when Rennardson was brought down in the box. Gardner’s penalty was saved but Clements scored the rebound to make it 2-2.

But with the last kick of the game a Harrogate player dribbled into the box for his teammate to smash home from close range giving them the three points.

Town face Mansfield in the Youth Alliance Cup Semi Final on Saturday 11am at Bradley FDC next.
