Youth Team report | Young Mariners suffer defeat at the hands of local rivals Lincoln

Our young Mariners suffered defeat at the hands of local rivals Lincoln on Saturday.

Town started off on the front foot, with Alex Graham having an early effort from close range saved by the Imps’ shot-stopper.

Elliott Smith and Henry Brown both created similar chances of their own, creating space on the angle and getting shots away that couldn’t find the back of the net.

At the other end, some lapse defending saw Neil Woods’ side concede from a close range rebound, which was followed quickly by a second Lincoln strike, as the young Mariners failed to clear their lines.

Lincoln added a third before the break from the penalty spot and Town got a goal back on the stroke of half-time through Carlo Midwinter.

Lincoln started the second-half the better side and quickly increase the goal cushion to three and a fifth was added from the penalty spot and Town had a mountain to climb to get anything from the game.

A deflection from a Ted Sharp cross gave Grimsby their second of the game and a consolation goal as they left Lincoln empty-handed.

Town: Rogers (Auton, 80′), Edwards, Jalloh, Hatton (Smith, 65′), Trialist A (Carrick, 60′), Graham, Onoh (Peterson, 60′), Foster (Sharp, 60′), Midwinter, Smith, Brown
