We are delighted to announce that Ryan Taylor has signed a new one-year deal with the Club.
The 34-year-old made 41 appearances for the Mariners last season following his move from Newport County a year ago and scored nine goals, including a brilliant header in our pulsating 5-4 victory against Wrexham in the play-offs.
The big front man was a vital cog in Paul Hurst’s promotion-winning team last term. He was regularly the focal point of our attack and his hard work and clever interplay allowed many of our other creative players the opportunity to shine.
Taylor spoke to gtfc.co.uk about his new deal and revealed that it didn’t him long to decide to stay.
“After having a conversation with the Gaffer about signing for another year, it was a no brainer for me. I was delighted to finally get it done; especially after the year we had as a group and getting promoted the way we did. I think that showed the character we have in the dressing room, and it was a fitting way to thank the fans for their support home and away last season. Everyone outside of the Club pretty much wrote us off and that made it even more satisfying for us.”
“If we can keep the bulk of the squad together, with a few new additions, I can’t see why we can’t go from strength to strength in League Two and that just adds to the excitement around next season.”
Town boss Paul Hurst also gave his reaction to Taylor’s new deal.
“I’m really pleased that Ryan has agreed to stay – I think the deal works well for both parties. He was a big player for us last season, and while he might not be a prolific goal scorer, I think he helped the team in lots of ways.”
“He’s a very clever player, linked play extremely well, gave us a physical element at the top of the pitch and was a really good foil for John McAtee. Although he had a bit of time out with injuries, he also probably had his best season for some time.”
“His experience will be vital next season and he’ll be able to pass his knowledge on to the rest of the group. Ryan is a good character to have around so, again, I’m very pleased to have him with us next season.”
It’s great to have you with us for another season, Ryan!
