Pardington Signs For Mariners

Grimsby Town Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of former Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Jamie Pardington until January 2023.

Standing at an imposing 6’5″, the 22-year-old goalkeeper’s career started at Rushall Olympic, before signing for Wolves in 2018, where he spent periods out on loan at Bath City, Stratford Town, Dulwich Hamlet and most recently Mansfield Town.

Pardington spoke exclusively to Mariners TV this evening and talked of his excitement at finally putting pen to paper with the Mariners after a spell on trial.

“I’m just happy to be here. It’s absolutely incredible, the pitch is gorgeous so I am just happy to get this over the line and hopefully be on the bench tonight.

“I am here until January, I am just happy to be here and help the squad in any way I can up until January. I was at Wolves for about four years really, I was in and out of the team but I really enjoyed it, it’s the highest standard of football you can play, I played in a few Premier League 2 games but I just want to take it more into men’s football and progress my game more.

“I do like to come for crosses and I do like to keep the ball out of the net, that’s me! But at the end of the day, I just want to help the team with my shot-stopping and in any way that I can with my distribution and other stuff like that, but mostly, you know I do really like to come for a cross”.

Paul Hurst spoke to gtfc.co.uk this evening “He’s done okay for us. He showed some promise and that’s the reason why we have taken him. It is short-term, but he is open to extending it depending on how he gets on. We have been looking at bringing in a keeper for some time, which has allowed Ollie Battersby to go out and get some well-needed experience out on loan.

“Jamie fitted the bill. He came in with a good attitude, and good enthusiasm, he fitted in well with the group straight away and he has impressed in terms of what he can do. He will try and get some games arranged so he can show us what he can do in those games, but Steve has seen enough in him, like me and we’re looking forward to integrating him more into the squad and seeing how he can progress.

“Profile-wise he is very good. That’s important, if he ever does step into the team or on the bench and has to come on, you want someone to look the part because if not, that gives the opposition a bit of encouragement and load the ball on top of you, but he has certainly got that on his side. He’s only young. Keepers take time in general, most of them do to fulfil their potential and it’s something to monitor and like I said, the other positive is that it’s allowed Ollie to get out and get some much-needed games.”

You will be able to catch Jamie’s first interview with the club in full over on Mariners TV later this evening.

Welcome to the club Jamie!
