We are excited to announce that the Club have joined Planet League โ a football and sustainability tournament inspiring schools and families to act on climate change.
The countryโs biggest climate action and football campaign, Planet League uses football-themed challenges to encourage sustainable behaviours among football fans in school, at work and at home, all while supporting their favourite club!
Over the coming weeks, supporters will be able represent the Mariners by scoring โgoalsโ for the Club through completing planet-saving activities in the latest campaign, Green Football Weekend, a collaboration between Planet League and several other organisations including Sky and BT Sport. The tournament runs for three weeks with participants competing for glory and the more โgoalsโ you score, the better the team does!
The tournament will run from Tuesday 17th January to Sunday 5th February and clubs will be awarded points related to the number of โgoalsโ their fans score through taking personal climate actions.
There are over sixty activities for participants to choose from, ranging from having a meat-free family meal, unplugging electrical appliances, taking shorter showers and walking to school or work instead of driving.
On the Marinersโ joining Planet League, CEO Debbie Cook said: โWeโre really proud to join the Planet League and we will be encouraging our supporters to get involved and help the planet.
โThe goals of Planet League are very much in line with our ethos as a Club. We have the community and sustainability at the heart of everything we do, and this initiative brings the two together.
โIโm looking forward to seeing all the โgoalsโ we score!โ
Keep your eyes out on our social media channels over the next few weeks where we will be showing how we are supporting Planet League and getting on in the Green Football Cup!
