The Mariners travel south to take on Crawley Town tonight as we hit the road in Skybet League Two.
Following Saturday’s postponement at Blundell Park against Harrogate Town, manager Paul Hurst will be keen to see his team return to winning ways away from home. The Mariners haven’t won on their travels since the Emirates FA Cup Second Round victory over Cambridge United.
Tonight’s hosts currently sit in 21st place in the League Two table, just three points above the relegation zone and eight behind Town. Here’s everything you need to know heading into the match.
Team News
Hurst confirmed ahead of tonight’s match that he was hopeful that captain Luke Waterfall would be able to travel with the group and be available for selection after missing the last two matches.
Full-back Danny Amos is suspended and will sit out his one-match suspension following his red card at Swindon. Anthony Glennon, who came on following his red card last week, is likely to return to the starting XI for the first time since our match against Salford in late December.
Crawley Town
Our hosts have only played one match so far in January with postponements against Doncaster Rovers and Sutton United hitting their progress. Earlier this month, they brought in manager Scott Lindsay from League Two rivals Swindon in the hope that he can pull Crawley away from the relegation zone.
Their only match so far this year saw them draw 2-2 away at Newport County and you have to go all the way back to the first weekend in December to find their last victory, a 2-0 home win over Swindon.
Keeping goals out has been a concern throughout the season so far has been a problem for Crawley who, in 24 matches, have conceded 39 goals.
Previous Meetings
The Mariners boast a strong recent record against Crawley after recording victories in each of the last three meetings, including a home victory in the reverse fixture in October. The teams have met 13 times in their respective histories, with Town having a slight edge with five wins to Crawley’s four.
Referee
Lee Swabey is the official in the middle for tonight’s match. The last Mariners match he officiated in was a 2-1 defeat to Colchester United in December 2020.
He will be assisted by James Vallance and Adrian Tranter.
