Grimsby Town midfielder Harry Clifton is eyeing his first international cap as Wales U21s prepare for their upcoming away friendlies against Albania (June 9 and 11).
The Town youth academy graduate, who scored three goals in 43 appearances for Michael Jolley’s side in 2018-19, has been called up by Rob Page ahead of the two games next month.
And the 20-year-old says he is now targeting his first cap for Wales U21 as they face Albania on Sunday, June 9 (5pm), and Tuesday, June 11 (3pm).
Speaking exclusively on iFollow Mariners, he said: “It’s exciting. I know it happened a few months ago with the training camp, but this time there are games, which I’m looking forward to.
“Obviously games are a bit different, and I want to make my debut, and even more so that it’s abroad.
“The next step is playing in a game and showing what I can do in a game, and hopefully there’ll be a good few chances to do that.
“It’s abroad against Albania – a team which is completely unfamiliar to me – so it will be a good experience.
“It’s away in Albania so it’s exciting, it’s a new experience for me, and I can’t wait to go.
“There are a few new lads on the squad list who I’ve not met before, and some who I’ve got used to from last time, so it will be a good mix.
“It’s good to know everyone’s different career paths, and levels of where they’re at, and I think we’ve got a strong team.
“So I’m looking forward to it – I want to train well and play in the games.”
