Crowdfunder Launches to Support New Wheelchair Viewing Area at Blundell Park

Grimsby Town supporters are being invited to play a key role in improving accessibility at Blundell Park, as the Club, the Mariners Trust and Disabled Supporters Association launch a new crowdfunder campaign.

The campaign aims to raise funds towards the development of a brand-new, purpose-built wheelchair viewing area, set to be installed in the corner between the Osmond Stand and the Ramsdens Stand ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Disabled Supporters Association has been a vital part of the Grimsby Town community for more than 40 years, and the number of wheelchair users attending matches has steadily increased in recent seasons.

While the Club has continued to support accessibility improvements, the need to further enhance the matchday experience has become increasingly important. Some supporters currently located at the front of the Technical Absorbents Stand are exposed to the elements and can occasionally experience restricted views due to pitchside activity.

This new development will significantly improve that experience.

The planned facility will provide:

  • Additional wheelchair spaces with companion seating
  • A covered, weatherproof viewing area
  • Accessible toilet provision
  • A raised platform for improved sightlines
  • Step-free ramp access
  • Entry via upper stand turnstiles

Collectively, the aim is to raise £36,000 through the crowdfunder campaign, with supporters and local businesses encouraged to contribute. In addition, a series of events involving current and former players will take place over the coming months to further support the initiative.

Wayne Brightmore, Chair of the Mariners Trust, said:

“We’re incredibly proud to be leading this campaign alongside the Club and Disabled Supporters Association. This is a project that will make a genuine, lasting difference to the matchday experience for many of our supporters.

“We’re asking everyone who can to get behind the campaign, whether that’s through a donation, sharing the message, or supporting the events we’ve got planned. Together, we can create a facility that reflects the inclusive, community-driven club we all believe in.”

Kevin Donovan, Chair of the Grimsby Town Disabled Supporters Association, said:

“The Disabled Supporters Association has been part of the fabric of this football club for over 40 years, and this project is something we’ve been working towards for a long time.

“For many of our wheelchair users, matchdays can come with challenges, whether that’s exposure to the weather or restricted views. This new stand will make a huge difference, providing a more comfortable, accessible and enjoyable experience for everyone.

“We’ve already had people come forward to support the project, and we’re really hopeful that the wider fanbase and local community will get involved. This is about making sure all supporters can enjoy following their team in the best possible way.”

This project represents another important step in ensuring Blundell Park remains welcoming, inclusive and accessible for all supporters.

Polly Bancroft, CEO of Grimsby Town FC, said:

“This is a really important project for the football club and our supporters. We want everyone who comes to Blundell Park to feel welcome and able to enjoy the matchday experience to the fullest.

“We hope the collaboration between the Club, the Mariners Trust and the Disabled Supporters Association will bring the whole community together to help deliver a facility that our wheelchair supporters truly deserve.”
