Michael Jolley: We Must Improve Against Notts County

Grimsby Town boss Michael Jolley hopes for an improved performance from his side in tonight’s Checkatrade Trophy clash with Notts County at Blundell Park (7.45pm).

The Mariners fell to a 1-0 home defeat to Yeovil Town in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday, and Jolley hopes for a better performance tonight.

Harry Kewell takes charge of his first match as Notts County boss – against Town tonight – with the Magpies winless in all competitions this season.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, Jolley said: “I think we should have more points than we’re sat here with at the minute, and I’m not happy about the number of points that we’ve got.

“We need to improve – we need to perform consistently, and pick up more points.

“We were all disappointed with how we played, certainly in the second half, so we need to try and decide what the best plan is to attack the game against Notts County.

“And once we’ve done that, then we’ll come up with a team to try and win that game.”

On-loan Sunderland midfielder Elliot Embleton will miss tonight and the trip to Bury this weekend, after being called up to the England U20s squad.

Jolley said: “Elliot is going away with the England squad so he’s going to be away with them for eight days so he won’t be with us until he returns.”

But the gaffer confirmed that winger Ben Pringle is eligible to make his Mariners debut tonight, following his season-long loan move from Preston North End.

He said: “He’s got quality and experience – he’s done extremely well, particularly at Rotherham, but elsewhere as well.

“He’s another good experienced person to have in our changing room, and we think once he’s fully up-to-speed with his fitness he can definitely help us.

“We wanted to add more depth in the wide-attacking areas, and when the opportunity came to speak with Ben we were pleased to take it.”

And striker Wes Thomas is also available to play in tonight’s Trophy clash – despite still having one League Two game left on his suspension.

Kids go free as Town look to return to winning ways against the Magpies tonight.
