Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Carlisle United striker, Tristan Abrahams on loan until the end of the season.
Abrahams developed through the academy system at Leyton Orient before penning his first professional contract with the club late in 2016. He went on to make his Football League debut in March 2017 against his soon-to-be club, Newport County.
After less than a year as a professional at the O’s, Abrahams secured a move to Sky Bet Championship side Norwich City in the summer of 2017. The young striker gained Football League experience out on loan at Exeter City & Yeovil Town, before completing a move to Newport County in the summer of 2019.
A successful two-year spell at The Exiles came to an end with Abrahams making 74 appearances in all competitions, scoring on 18 occasions before making the move back to Leyton Orient on loan for the second half of the 2020/21 season.
In June 2021, Abrahams signed a two-year deal at parent club, Carlisle United and has already made 27 appearances, scoring four goals across all competitions since joining The Blues. Abrahams now makes the move to Cleethorpes, joining a number of former teammates such as David Longe-King and Ryan Taylor.
Abrahams met his new teammates for the first time this morning prior to his first training session and spoke exclusively to GTTV following his signing.
“I’m buzzing, it’s been in the process for about a week or so now, it was a great opportunity for me to come down and play more football. I have played against Grimsby a few times in the League and I know that it’s a big club. I think there was a lack of opportunity towards the back end of my spell at Carlisle, I just want to play as many games as possible.
“I know Michee [Efete] and David [Longe-King], so I spoke to those lads before I came here, Ryan Taylor actually messaged me before and said there was a bit of interest there so with that, I thought to myself it was a great opportunity to join a big club and it’s good that I know a few of the boys.
“I actually follow the National League quite well, so I know that the boys got off to a flying start, we have taken a bit of a dip in form but we just have to move back up the table again and I hope to help make that happen and to be a part of that so the boys can kick on”.
Manager Paul Hurst spoke to GTTV this afternoon following the striker’s arrival and is looking forward to seeing him in the black and white of the Mariners.
“He’s a centre forward that people have been wanting us to bring in. He’s different to what we have got, he adds a bit of pace and power, he knows a few of the boys which will help him settle in nice and easy and he is someone whose career, by his own admission has just stuttered a little bit, so hopefully, he can kick start here with us and I am looking forward to handing him that Town shirt!”.
Tristan will wear the number 9 shirt for the Mariners and will be eligible for Saturday’s visit of Bromley. You can join us this weekend by purchasing tickets online now!
