Anthony Limbrick Pre-Cheltenham Town Press Conference

Grimsby Town assistant manager Anthony Limbrick hopes the Mariners can continue producing good football to get their fourth Sky Bet League Two win in a row.

Michael Jolley’s side created plenty of chances as they beat Yeovil Town 3-1 at Huish Park last weekend, following the previous wins over Newport County and MK Dons.

And assistant boss Limbrick is hoping for more of the same as the Mariners welcome Cheltenham Town to Blundell Park on Saturday (3pm).

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “Every game is actually really tough in this league, despite scorelines, and Cheltenham Town this weekend will be a tough game.

“They had a tough game last week against Colchester United as they lost 3-0, and I think they’ll be looking to really bounce back.

“I thought we played quite well against them last time but they managed to get the win over us, so it just shows it’s not just about the performance – you’ve got to get the wins as well.

“We want to try and find that consistency and try and get that fourth win in a row.

“In the last three games we’ve created a lot more chances. In the Newport County and Yeovil Town games, we definitely created a lot, which is good.

“It’s not just the goal-scorers, but sometimes creating from all parts is important – the build-up play, the way we move the ball, how many crosses we get in the box, and things like that.

“So that’s really important when you look at goals, and you do go through periods where you might not be creating as much.

“But I think the system we’re using at the moment seems to be working quite well, and we are creating chances, so we want to make sure we do that again this weekend.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game, and that’s really what we’re concentrating on at the moment.”

And Limbrick acknowledged that the Mariners have made significant progress so far this season, but insisted that there is still a long way to go.

He said: “I think we’ve definitely progressed. I think the way we’ve been playing in the last little period has been good.

“We had a tough start to the season, which was difficult for everyone, but to show the improvements that we have made – I think they’re clear to see.

“We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves either, though, we’ve got a lot more work to do, and we want to keep improving – be that with the squad, the way we play, and the amount of points we get on the board.

“We want to make sure we finish the season strong with 14 games to go, and see how far we can get.

“The minute you start to look at the league table then you start getting a bit away from yourself, so all we can really concentrate on is the next training session – the week in hand that we’re doing, and preparing for this game.

“So, regardless of where we are in the table, we prepare in the same way for these games up, and they’re all important and we want to finish the season strong.

“But we really are just focusing on what we’re doing at the moment!”

John Welsh will miss the game with a hamstring injury, while Elliott Whitehouse remains side-lined with his ACL injury.
