Fleetwood game chosen as ‘Community Weekends’ fixture

We will be celebrating the work of the Grimsby Town Foundation at Saturday’s game against Fleetwood Town.

The game against the Cod Army takes place during the EFL’s Community Weekends campaign, where all 72 Clubs will be demonstrating the impact of their foundations over the next two weekends.

On the EFL initiative, Grimsby Town Foundation’s Community Director Mike Thompson said, “Community Weekend is the perfect opportunity to showcase the great work carried out by the Foundation and share that with the wider community through our fantastic football club.”

“We work in close collaboration with the Club so days like today can be easily achieved. We will highlight some of the activities that the Foundation carries out on a daily basis to predominantly give younger people better opportunities in life. We’ll also showcase some of our community heroes; those who have shown a real appetite for our work, both participants and staff. There will be information all around Blundell Park so please come and ask us any questions you may have, we’re looking forward to meeting more fans.”

Ahead of the game, the ‘Social Value’ of the work carried out by our Foundation during the 2023-24 season will be announced and further information about its impact will be available in the programme and on the big screen on matchday.

This season’s ‘community heroes’ – people associated with the Club who do sterling work in our town – will also be celebrated on the pitch before the game.

The Osmond Stand will house what we hope will be a good crowd made up of young people who use the Foundation’s services and many fostering families who have been issued tickets as part of the Club’s partnership with North-East Lincolnshire council’s ‘Fostering Bright Futures’ scheme. These have been generously subsidised by the 3Q Community Partnership Fund.

Mariners Chief Executive, Polly Bancroft, said, “As the only professional club in the town, we fully understand the power of the badge and the positive impact that we’re having in the community. The Foundation are doing some brilliant outreach work to benefit those most in need. We’re also making sure that Foundation participants and partners can access matches at Blundell Park as a reward or to act as inspiration for future involvement. We’ll continue to engage with more members of the community for many years to come, the impact of which is being felt across the Club and town.”

We look forward to welcoming people from across our community to Blundell Park on Saturday.
