Grimsby Town boss Michael Jolley has expressed his delight at the Mariners’ 2-0 Sky Bet League Two win over Port Vale at Blundell Park.
Town made it back-to-back league wins for the first time this season as Wes Thomas and JJ Hooper both grabbed goals, and Jolley was pleased with his side’s performance.
Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “First half I wasn’t particularly happy with our control of the game, but obviously we got a great start with Wes’ goal.
“Second half I think we stepped onto the game, and played some good football. I thought we were unlucky not to get more than the one goal we got in the second half, so I’m really pleased overall.
“There was some great combination play, and we think we’ve got some good players at this level.
“Elliot Embleton is really coming onto his game, and Charles Vernam, JJ Hooper, and Wes Thomas – those four combining backed up by the others – I think we were a real threat all the way through the game.
“We wanted to build on the Carlisle United game on Tuesday where we thought we played well, and deserved to win and, I think, overall, we deserved to win today’s game as well.
“We’re not going to be an overnight success – I think we’re going to grow and improve, and if people can give us the time to go through that process then I think we can be much better over the longer-term.”
