New midfielder Elliot Embleton is hoping his loan spell at Grimsby Town can help him continue his development and progress as a player.

The 19-year-old England U20 international joined on loan until January from Sky Bet League One side Sunderland yesterday, and he’s hopeful of getting game-time in League Two at Blundell Park.

Speaking exclusively on iFollow Mariners, he said: “I need the experience playing games in the League so hopefully I can perform well for Grimsby Town.

“It’s my first loan away from Sunderland, and hopefully I can get some game-time and show what I can do.

“I want to get as many games as I can, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do tomorrow!

“I spoke to the manager yesterday – it was positive, and he says that we’ve got a good set of lads, and I’m sure we have, and hopefully we can push on in the season.”

Embleton, who is available for tomorrow’s League Two clash with Yeovil Town at Blundell Park tomorrow (3pm), told iFollow Mariners he is a creative midfielder who hopes to make things happen for Town.

He said: “I like to get forward – support the play, create attacks, and score goals. I’m creative – I look to open gaps in the defence, and get forward, and get a goal or an assist.

“I can play anywhere in midfield – I can play in front of the back four, as a two, as a three, or attacking.”

And Embleton recalled watching a current-Town defender playing at the Stadium of Light when he was a fan more than 10 years ago.

He said: “I used to have a Sunderland season ticket when I was younger and Danny Collins used to play in the Premier League!”
