Lincoln City 2-2 Grimsby Town U18s – Youth Team Match Report

Luis Adlard’s brace helped Grimsby Town youth team come from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Lincoln City in the EFL North East Youth Alliance.

The game didn’t start well for Neil Woods’s side when the Imps had some play out wide before a player cut in and shot from distance to find the net.

But Town settled down and gained some possession of the ball, and Evan Khouri pounced on a free-kick and went through one-on-one only to hit the goalkeeper.

But Lincoln doubled their lead shortly after as a counter-attack saw a deflection loop over the goalkeeper to give the hosts a two-goal advantage at half time.

Town came out the brighter in the second half which was an open, end-to-end affair.

The young Mariners had a number of chances through captain Joe Starbuck, Luis Adlard, and Khouri.

And Town got a goal back in the 65th minute when a long ball from Duncan Idehen found Adlard, who slotted coolly past the goalkeeper to make it 2-1.

And Woods’s side found an equaliser five minutes later as Cameron Painter’s cross came back off the bar for Adlard to get his brace with a tap-in from close range.

Town had more chances but could not capitalise, as they were forced to settle for a point.

The young Mariners travel to Fleetwood Town in the Youth Alliance Cup quarter-finals on Friday.
