The Mariners welcome Burton Albion to Blundell Park on Saturday evening in the Third Round of this season’s Emirates FA Cup (5:30pm kick off) in our second match of 2023.
Town will be looking to build on the positivity from last weekend’s 1-0 home victory over Stockport County, a victory that came courtesy of Otis Khan’s third goal in as many matches.
Off the back of victories at home over Plymouth Argyle and away to Cambridge United in the first and second rounds, Paul Hurst will be keen to guide his team into the Fourth Round for the first time since
Saturday’s visitors Burton are currently sitting in 21st place in Skybet League One and come into this weekend’s match off the back of a 5-0 defeat at the hands of relegation rivals Morecambe on New Years’ Day.
Here’s everything you need to know heading into tomorrow’s match.
Team News
Town boss Paul Hurst confirmed earlier this week that, following the victory over Stockport, his team haven’t picked up any new injury concerns.
Midfielder Harry Clifton, if selected, will make his 200th appearance for the Mariners after making his club debut back in 2017.
Sean Scannell, fresh from signing his new contract, could continue his return to fitness after being named on the bench in each of the last three matches.
Ryan Taylor is still recovering from the hamstring injury which has kept him on the sidelines since the beginning of November.

Match Coverage
Tomorrow evening’s match has been selected for an overseas TV broadcast but is not available in this country. Also, due to the broadcasting rights of the competition, the game isn’t eligible for a live stream on Mariners TV. However, subscribers will be able to access BBC Radio Humberside’s commentary as usual from 4.30pm.
Highlights of the game will be available on Mariners TV and YouTube on Sunday.
Previous Meetings
Saturday’s match will be only the third time ever that Grimsby have faced Burton and the first in thirteen years.
Both previous occasions have seen the Mariners fall to defeat to the Staffordshire-based club with each of those coming during the 2009-10 season. Town lost 2-1 at home in October 2009 before travelling to Burton in May 2010 with the hosts defeating us 3-0.
Kit Colours
Burton will be wearing their yellow home shirt with yellow shorts and socks. We will be in our usual black and white stripes.
Referee
Charles Breakspear will be the man in charge for this weekend’s match. His last involvement with a Mariners match was as Fourth Official in our victory over Bolton Wanderers in April 2021. He last took charge of a Town game in February 2019 when we won 3-1 away to Yeovil Town. He’ll be joined by Assistants Joe Simpson & Daniel Woodward.
As ever, thank you for your brilliant support. We’re looking forward to seeing you under the Blundell Park lights tomorrow evening as we look to continue our Emirates FA Cup journey! Purchase your tickets online here.
