Grimsby Town manager Michael Jolley hopes his side can return to winning ways with a good performance against Macclesfield Town in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday (3pm).
The Mariners look to end their three-game winless run in the league as they host Daryl McMahon’s side, who currently sit in 14th-place, at Blundell Park on the weekend.
And Town boss Jolley hopes his side can produce a good performance to claim all three points against the Silkmen.
Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “The performance against Oldham Athletic was probably the one I was most disappointed with – we didn’t use the ball well enough against them.
“But we showed good fight and resilience to take a draw in that game.
“The Crewe Alexandra game was slightly different – there were some important moments that went against us, and I think Crewe played very well on the day.
“And Tuesday, against Salford City, I was pleased with many aspects of our performance.
“I think we had 70 per cent of the ball, we made 572 passes, and we created a number of good opportunities to score a goal.
“And, other than the goal they did score, they didn’t have too many shots on target.
“So there was a lot to like about our performance, but of course in the end people get focused on the outcome and we lost the game.
“So we need to try and make sure we deliver a good performance and get the result too.”
Town have already played against the Silkmen this season, as they beat them 5-4 on penalties in Carabao Cup round two after the original tie had been abandoned at half time due to a waterlogged pitch at Blundell Park.
And Jolley hopes his side can get the better of the Silkmen in what he believes will be a tight match.
He said: “The game-and-a-half we’ve played with them so far has been very close and competitive between two closely-matched teams.
“So we’d expect a similar type of game, but of course we’re at home – it’s a game we want to try and get on the front foot in and try to win.
“It’s a game between two closely-matched teams – I definitely think they’ve improved their squad from last season.
“I think Daryl McMahon’s a good manager and doing a good job there.
“We saw the game they had against Newport County, and they were excellent in the week so it’s going to be another tough game for us.”
Harry Davis has a “small” chance of returning to fitness for the Carabao Cup round three tie with Chelsea on Wednesday.
Fellow defender Ludvig Öhman will be out for the next few weeks, after coming off with a groin strain in the 1-0 defeat to Salford City.
