We are delighted to announce the signing of Curtis Thompson from Cheltenham Town on a free transfer.
The 30-year-old midfielder moves to Blundell Park from the League One club on a deal until summer 2025.
Thompson began his career with Leicester City before joining Notts County. During seven years at Meadow Lane, Thompson made over 100 appearances for the Magpies, many at League One level.
Following a successful loan spell with Wycombe Wanderers, the midfielder signed for the Chairboys permanently ahead of the 2018/19 campaign and helped them win promotion from League One in 2020 and was a regular in their side during their season in the Championship.
After four seasons at Wycombe, Thompson made the move to Cheltenham Town in the summer and made 22 appearances for the Robins this term.
Speaking about the signing of Thompson, Head Coach David Artell said, “We are delighted to get someone of the calibre of Curtis in the building. He should add both solidity to transitions, make us harder to beat but also start the moves off.’’
“I believe he’s been undervalued in possession at clubs he’s been at, whereas I think he can be a driving force for us.”
“He’s an excellent acquisition and I’m looking forward to working with him. It’s an 18-month deal, his pedigree speaks for itself.”
“I’m looking forward to helping him get better. He’s a good bloke, good character and we are all hoping that will help us win games.’’
