YOUTH TEAM REPORT | Hartlepool United 1-3 Grimsby Town

Grimsby travelled to Blackhall Colliery to face Hartlepool this morning.

The Mariners got off to a flying start when Gardner’s cross found Henry Brown who saw his close range effort saved by the keeper, but Clements smashed home the rebound after 2 minutes to put Town ahead.

Town were in top form in the first-half. Bradley hit the bar, Brown also went close again twice. Giles and Gardner also had chances but Town were unable to double their lead.

Hartlepool were then reduced to ten men when the last defender committed a cynical foul.

Town started the second half well as Gardner saw an effort smash off the post. Giles and Clements also had efforts which went close again.

But it was Hartlepool who scored the equaliser with a header from close range to make it 1-1.

Town however finished strong when Gardner finished well across the keeper to make it 2-1 in the 70th minute.

Clements rounded off the victory to make it 3-1 lifting the ball over the keeper.

Next up for Town is Preston away in the Youth Alliance Cup Final on Saturday.
