Town were back in league action at the weekend and took all three points against Harrogate Town.
Town started the brighter controlling the early stages of possession, Essel went close when he broke away but the angle was too wide to hurt the opposition.
Adlard raced through only to see a great last-ditch tackle, but Town continued to pile on the pressure however Harrogate stayed strong and started to get to grips with the game and disrupting the Town flow.
The second half Town started brightly again, winning an earlier corner, the first header from Goundry came back off the bar for Essel to head home.
However it was Harrogate who looked the more like to score, some resolute defending from Town kept them at bay, but at the other end, Town doubled their lead when Essel out jumped the goalkeeper to head home his and Towns second.
Harrogate however kept going and had lots of possession, they did score with 5 minutes left with an effort from distance.
Town held out to get a deserved three points and a 2-1 win.
Next up for the young Mariners are Burton on Thursday at Bradley FDC (1pm).
