This Sunday see’s our women’s team face a tough test in the League Cup First Round, when the visitors are Oughtibridge WM Women F.C.
Oughtibridge are a South Yorkshire based club sitting a tier above the Mariners, where they play their football in the Premier Division of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League. They presently sit in 4th place in their respective League, just two points behind third-place Chesterfield, with a game in hand. They have only suffered one defeat in the league all season, suffering a 3–0 defeat to league leaders Northampton Town.
Town aren’t any strangers to causing cup upsets, with last season seeing the Mariners despatch two Premier Division opponents out of The FA Women’s Cup. Despite starting as underdogs, they will be looking to progress further in the competition.
The competition has two routes to silverware across all three of the League’s divisions. Every team begins at the Cup First Round stage and those unsuccessful in progressing continue in an alternative League Plate competition.
The game takes place at Brigg Town F.C. on Sunday with a 1:30pm kick-off. Spectators are very welcome and admission price is £2 for adults, £1 for concessions, and Under 16’s are free with a paying adult.
