David Artell has provided a squad update ahead of tomorrow evening’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Accrington Stanley at Blundell Park.
The Mariners boss was asked for the latest on his squad during his pre-match press conference and admitted there have been no significant changes since the weekend.
“Not really,” he said. “Not really, no. Just is what it is.”
Artell was also questioned on defender Sam Lavelle, who missed the goalless draw with Newport County after suffering a calf issue in the build-up to the game. The Town manager confirmed there is no fresh update at this stage.
“No,” he added.
Lavelle’s absence at Rodney Parade saw Ty Warren step into the starting XI, with the defender helping the Mariners secure another clean sheet. Artell explained after the match that the centre-back had “tweaked his calf” and would be sidelined “for a bit,” while also noting that new arrival Maldini Kacurri is still adapting to the team’s style and tactical demands.
Elsewhere, Jayden Sweeney’s omission against Newport was down to selection, with the Head Coach highlighting the competition for places within his squad and the importance of choosing a side based on form and the specific demands of each opponent.
Prior to the trip to South Wales, Artell had delivered encouraging news on several longer-term absentees. Jude Soonsup-Bell continues to follow concussion protocols, while Christy Pym and Cameron Gardner have both returned to outdoor training as they progress through the early stages of their recoveries.
Midfielder Jason Svanthorsson is also moving closer to a return after seeking specialist advice on a knee issue, with hopes he could soon be back on the grass. Meanwhile, Doug Tharme is set to begin his rehabilitation programme.
Reflecting on the broader picture, Artell remains optimistic about the direction of travel as players edge nearer to full fitness.
“It’s always positive in the sense that Mother Nature tends to heal people and not harm them,” he said recently. “The lads are working hard… it’s now about building them all up properly to make sure they’re fit and ready for the run-in.”
With Town preparing for another important test under the lights, the Mariners will once again rely on the depth, resilience and togetherness within the group as they look to continue their positive momentum.
