The 22-year-old made 11 appearances last season, following his move from Chesterfield in March. The former Burnley academy graduate competed for the right back spot with Michee Efete and was ever-present in the final weeks of the season, including all three play-off encounters. Cropper, of course, has gained a reputation for his long throw, and his special talent helped the Mariners score important goals in both the play-off semi-final and final.

The promising defender spoke to gtfc.co.uk shortly after signing his new deal at Blundell Park.

“I’m delighted to sign a new deal with the Club. I was on holiday when the Gaffer rang me and told me the news, and that made the holiday even better!”

“I’m really looking forward to the new season back in the Football League and playing back in front of our excellent fans. Our away support last season was just as good as the home support and to have over 13,000 there at the final was just incredible.”

Town boss Paul Hurst also gave his reaction and shared his hopes for the former Burnley man.

“Jordan joined us at the back end of March, but because of the way our season panned out, he spent a good couple of months with us. He’s another who’s played a part in helping the Club achieve promotion. Many people will look at his long throw which had a big hand in our all-important winning goal in the final. We also got a goal in the Wrexham game from one of his long throws as well, so it’s certainly an asset for us as a team, although there’s lots more to Jordan’s game than just his throwing ability.”

“He did very well to play as much as he did, considering how long he’d been out for prior to joining us. At the same time, there should be an opportunity for him during pre-season to get fitter and a bit sharper. Jordan is another player we feel has more potential in him and hopefully we can see that in the coming season.”
